John Denver What Thou Wrought?

The killing of the eight persons in Songkhla was apparently set off after he got sick of them singing karaoke. Among the victims was the suspect's brother-in-law. The Telegraph interviewed the accused man:

"When I began shooting nobody pleaded for his life because they were all drunk," he said after his arrest.

He said he was so furious with their awful singing that he did not notice he had murdered his own brother-in-law.

"I warned these people about their noisy karaoke parties. I said if they carried on I would go down and shoot them. I had told them if I couldn’t talk sense into them I would come back and finish them off," he added.
...
A neighbour said that the karaoke group normally sang Thai pop and southern Thai ballads, but one particular western tune could be heard often - John Denver’s ‘Country Roads’.

Country Roads is a hugely popular song in south east Asia and the neighbour said the revellers had been singing it over and over again

BP: Country Roads often sounds quite a reasonable song after half a bottle of whiskey. The whole case is just weird.

Listening to Thais butcher the lyrics of a John Denver song is a good reason to go on a murderous rampage.

Hell, I want to murder myself after singing that song.

I have to confess to confiscating the power cord from the staff of the apartment I was living in after the 20th rendition of "Have you ever seen the rain" one New Year's day at about 4:30 in the morning.

If it was John Denver every day and I was armed, who knows what might have happened. I'd call it a mix of self-defense and justifiable homicide.

There should be a sentence tailored to the songs being sung:

Murder while singing "My Way", or anything from the Carpenters should be considered self-defense.
"My Beautiful Sunday" equals manslaughter, etc.

    1.at last, justice in Thailand!

now we have to get the other 20 million people singing Country Road, or
    Cunty
    Low, to be correct.

2.Worse than John Denver: The Carpenters.

There should be a sentence according to the song being sung:

Killing 8 people after singing John Denver does not carry the same
sentence as if you sing the Carpenters

    Heaviest sentence: singing "My Way"

    3. actually it's the opposite:

Murder while singing "My Way", or anything from the Carpenters should be considered self-defense.
"My Beautiful Sunday" equals manslaughter, etc.

I just talked to a thai friend... who heard a totally different version on thai TV !

The guy went on a killing spree because people inside the karaoke killed his... brother and law.

    Go figure !

I mean, even by thai standards, the interview to the english newspaper is surreal.

That might be his defence now. I imagine it was not really a one-on-one interview, but more of one of those press conference type things in Thailand post-arrest.

Ohh the Carpenters. Walking into department stores about 5 or 6 years used to make me crazy as "Top of the World" seemed to be on continual re-loop somewhere. There is of course the cover version.
